At the beginning of the school year, it’s important for teachers to get a clear picture of where each student is performing. Then she can design instruction to best meet the needs of each student. The Measures of Academic Progress or MAP test, gives us that picture of student performance in reading and math, language and science. The test is not high-stakes. We use it to measure growth. No student will “pass” or “fail” a MAP test. The data from the test will simply give the teacher information from which to design targeted instruction.
