Andrea Durbin Principal |
Troy Elementary School (TES) is a GREAT place to learn! T - Together E - Everyone S - Succeeds Thank you for sharing your children with us! |
Bachelors Degree:
My dream had always been to attend Texas A&M University and major in Education. However, I had a few well-respected educators talk me out of it my junior year. I changed gears and decided to explore my next dream and major in Journalism/Advertising. Since A&M was not known at the time for that field of study, I attended Temple Jr. College (now Temple College) for one year and then transferred to Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos (Now Texas State). Although they had an excellent program, I knew my true calling was to be an educator. I told my professor the day before I graduated that I wished I had stayed with my initial plan. He told me it was too late now! (It's never too late to follow your destiny!) |
Masters Degree:
After working for four years in the newspaper business, I pursued my teaching degree at Huston-Tillotson College and began my teaching career in east Austin. I was in the classroom for 8 years (2 years in 3rd and 6 years in 4th) on both the east and west sides of Austin. At that point, I decided I wanted to reach a broader range of students and educators and obtained my Masters' Degree from the University of Texas in Austin. (Although I am a huge Aggie fan!!) |
Principal History:
I was an Assistant Principal in Austin for 4 years - east and west sides - and a Coordinator of Student Services/Counselor/AP in Salado for 2 years. I was then promoted to Principal of Salado Intermediate School (grades 3-6) and held that position for 5 years. When my daughter decided she wanted to attend Troy ISD, I went to work for Communities In Schools (CIS) in Killeen. When the Principal position for TES was posted, I knew it was exactly where I was meant to be. |
